The high temperatures volatilize the minerals in the wood, creating an organic porcelain glaze. The heat liberates the minerals from the wood, while the flame distributes the organic material onto the ceramics in unique patterns. The naturally differing glaze colors originate from the symbiotic relationship between different woods and different clay bodies at different temperatures and cooling rates.
